Parent Counselling & Coaching
“I have always held the view that the internal world is a reflection of the external world and there is a constant interaction – you can’t understand one without the other.” - John Bowlby
Some ways that our work together can help:

Build a stronger more connected relationship with your child where they want to cooperate because of this connection

Calm and confident discipline that does not include yelling, screaming, shaming, timeouts, or bribes
-
How to effectively repair your relationship with your child when you make a mistake (which you will - we all do)

I provide counselling and coaching to parents whose children are between the ages of 0-12 and are having various parenting challenges. Parent counselling sessions are for parents only. My role is to provide support, reflection, awareness, education, and the learning of new skills so that you can begin to heal old wounds if necessary, and begin to implement new strategies and techniques in your home. We will also work to understand your child’s behavior, what it is trying to communicate, and ways to respond that are practical, evidence based, and effective. This is a collaborative process.
Inital Session
In the first session I will learn more about you, your family, your history, explore further the parenting struggles you are having, and what your goals are. The next sessions will focus on supporting you to achieve your family goals. Change and undoing some patterns, that may have been present for some time, takes time and effort. Research shows that clients who meet consistently tend to see better results, so I often recommend meeting weekly or biweekly in the beginning.
Pre-Appointment Process
Before booking your first appointment, we will have a 15-minute telephone consultation to find out more about you and what is bringing you to parent counselling. This helps us to make sure that I have the experience you need and that you feel this might be a good fit.
I will then send you an intake form to gather some background information about your parenting concerns. Sessions will be offered virtually through a secure online platform. Online sessions provide ease of access from your home or your office and saves you time. This is often helpful for busy parents. Sessions are open to all who live anywhere in Alberta, Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.
